Does a student need to be a Massachusetts resident to apply for admission at Boston Prep?

Yes, a student must be a Massachusetts resident at the time of application to be eligible for Boston Prep’s enrollment process. Additionally, students must maintain Massachusetts residency to attend and continue attending Boston Prep or any charter school in the state.

 
What constitutes proof of residency?

Acceptable proof of residency includes a license or picture ID, a copy of a lease or mortgage, a paycheck/stub, a bank statement dated within the last 90 days, or utility bills from the past 90 days.

Please note that residents of Boston are given preference in the enrollment process.

What is your grade completion policy?

To enroll at Boston Prep, students must successfully complete the grade prior to the one they are applying for.

 
Do I need to complete a separate application for each of my children?

Yes, each child needs their own application.

How will I know if my child has been accepted?

Boston Prep hosts a public lottery in early March each year. While you are welcome to attend, attending the lottery does not influence admission decisions. After the lottery, you will be notified of your child's admission status through your online application account on SchoolMint, as well as by a phone call from the school. If your child is not admitted, you will receive their waitlist number. You can continue tracking your child's status through their SchoolMint account, so be sure to save your username and password for future access.

 
What do I do if my child has been accepted?

If your child is awarded a seat in our lottery, you have one week to accept or deny your seat. Once you have accepted your child’s seat, we will follow up with you regarding the required documents and enrollment paperwork.

What are your school hours?

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

  • Doors open for breakfast at 7:15 AM
  • First Period starts promptly at 7:45 AM
  • Dismissal is at 3:15 PM

Wednesdays (early release days)

  • Doors open for breakfast at 7:15 AM
  • First Period starts promptly at 7:45 AM
  • Dismissal is at 1:15 PM
 
Why does school end early on Wednesdays?

We believe that strong, well-supported teachers are key to closing the achievement gap. To uphold this commitment, our teachers and faculty participate in professional development (PD) sessions every Wednesday. These sessions allow them to reflect on their teaching practices and develop their skills, ensuring that they provide your child with the highest quality education possible.

Can I tour Boston PRep?

You can reach out to: [email protected] to request a tour. We offer tours to all prospective families before the March lottery and again to families who have been accepted. Tour dates will be posted on our website as they become available.

Do you offer after-school programming?

No, we do not. We encourage students to participate in after-school clubs and sports.

Are students provided with transportation to and from school?

Students in Grade 6 who live more than 1.5 miles from Boston Prep will receive school bus transportation. Students in grades 7 and above who live more than 1.5 miles away will be provided with an MBTA pass. Additionally, door-to-door bus transportation is available for students who require it based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 plan.
